Also new on the CPB site

We've recently added our CPB reading list which will help you find the best
children's poetry for teachers, parents and librarians and has been
compiled by our education expert and Selector Mandy Coe.

Our Patrons

We're delighted that the wonderful children's poets Ian McMillan and
Adrian Mitchell have agreed to join Poet Laureate Andrew Motion in
supporting us as
Patrons of the CPB.

Welcome to the Children's Poetry Bookshelf

The CPB was set up by the Poetry Book Society to support poetry written for children.
Its aim is to encourage children to read and enjoy poetry and it operates as a book club.
The books we offer are chosen by a panel of expert Selectors, whose task is to find the
very best children's poetry.

Our website
This new website launched in October 2005 is part of a major relaunch of the Children's Poetry Bookshelf funded by Arts Council England. It is the only website totally dedicated to children's poetry. We hope to make it a place where children will come to discover many fine children's poems and to take part in activities, including quizzes and poem puzzles. We will also encourage interactivity and hope to post children's own poems, reviews and comments, making the site a lively and entertaining place.Fun from poetry
We believe that children can get a tremendous amount of fun from poetry and that it can help in many ways with developing their reading and writing skills. We also feel that we, as adults, need to encourage kids to develop a love of poetry if we are to have an adult audience for it.

Children's poetry
We hope that you will join with us in supporting the Children's Poetry Bookshelf.
Of course we'd love you to sign up as members and receive regular poetry packages,
but we hope that above all you will encourage the children in your family, your class
or your library to visit the site and enjoy the wonderful children's poetry we'll be
featuring.
