1. What is the Children's Poetry Bookshelf?
The Children's Poetry Bookshelf is a book club offering the best poetry written for children, selected by our expert panel.

2. What age range do you cater for?
The CPB is for 7 to 11 year-olds.

3. What are the benefits of being a member?
Depending on which membership you opt for, members get two or three

4. How do you choose the books?
Our expert selection panel chooses the books.


5. Do members get any other books offered to them?
All the children's poetry titles in print in the UK are available to members at a discount through the members' part of our website.

6 How can I join the Children's Poetry Bookshelf?
You can join online if you wish, or contact us for an information pack.

7 Do you have a membership for libraries?
Yes. Our library membership offers eight books three times a year.

8 Why can't children join in their own right?
Members have to be eighteen to join, but you can nominate your child or grandchild to receive the book parcels.


9 Can I get books sent to my child/grandchild?
Yes, you can opt for the books to be sent to a different address from your own as a gift membership.

10 Why set up a club just for children's poetry?
The Children's Poetry Bookshelf was set up to encourage children to read and enjoy poetry, which is why it focuses on children's poetry.

11 Can I buy children's poetry books at a discount?
Once you are a member, you can buy all the children's poetry books in print in the UK online or directly from us at a discount of 25%.

12 Can you get any poetry book written for children?
Yes, we can get any poetry book written for children and in print in the UK, provided that publishers can supply it.


13 Can I get an extra discount on class sets?
Yes, you can usually get a 35% discount if you order 10 or more copies of the same title.

14 How can I find what I'm looking for on the site?
Use the Search at the top of the page.

15 How can you help me teach poetry to my class?
There are three introductory activity sheets (link) available on the site. When you get your new sets of books you'll also receive activity sheets based on these books. These will also be available for download from the members' site.

16 How often will you update the site?
We plan to update the site every month, but there will be new CPB book selections every term.


17 How can I find good quality poetry books for children?
Joining the CPB is the easiest way to do this, as the Selectors look at the new books every term and select the best. Otherwise you could look at Mandy Coe’s reading list.



18 Can children use the site, even if their parents or school are not members?
Yes, the children's part of the site is freely available to all children and we very much hope that many of them will visit it.

19 Can I buy children's poetry books if I don't want to join the CPB?
Yes, you can order books through our poetry bookshop on the web, www.poetrybookshoponline.com

20 Can children send you their poems?
We'd be happy for children to send us their poems and will put the best ones on the site.


21 Can children review their favourite poetry books or poems on the site?
Yes, and we'll put the most interesting reviews on the site.

22 Can I suggest poets to interview and other possible content for the site?
Yes, please email us with your suggestions and we'll do what we can.

23 Do you link to other children's sites?
Yes, we intend to build up a good links section for children and one for adults, so would be grateful for any suggestions.
